Postard Design for metaLAB (at) Harvard’s “A Bit in the Abyss”

I designed and produced a tactile keepsake for metaLAB’s A Bit in the Abyss—a multisensory installation at Illuminus Boston (see video below) that embodied the Internet Archive’s mission to preserve the world’s knowledge in digital form.

Inside a shipping container, mirrors reflected the blinking indicator lights of a Petabox—the Internet Archive’s digital storage server—creating an immersive, infinite interplay of light and sound. The project’s title and design referenced the French phrase mise-en-abyme ("to place in the abyss"), evoking the existential and aesthetic condition of information storage as knowledge dissolves into a digital void.

To provide visitors with a tangible connection to this experience, I designed and managed the production of a silver foil-stamped analogue keepsake, which could be cut and folded into a mini replica of A Bit in the Abyss, allowing them to take a piece of the abyss home. This piece won a Print Magazine Regional Design Award, ranking third in the Northeast region.
