I created an illustration of the aortic valve device, with the spinner window carefully positioned around its placement. As seen at the end of the animation below, the inner spinner wheel was thoughtfully designed to align seamlessly within the cutout. I handled the entire production process in my home studio, including screen printing, laser cutting, and hand assembly, ensuring every detail was meticulously crafted. Each card was paired with an elegant A7 metallic silver euro-flap envelope, complementing the design's refined aesthetic. Rafael Reif and Mrs. Christine Reif. I handled the design and pre-production of both the card and a custom postage stamp, ensuring a cohesive and meaningful final piece. Designed to embrace craft and inspire curiosity, the interactive card features a paper-engineered cobweb that ascends when the recipient pulls on a silver string, revealing a hidden silver-foiled message: "May curiosity rule your world in the new year!" The front of the card is foil-stamped in a bright, lively blue and features the MIT seal alongside an origami crease pattern created by MIT alumnus Brian Chan. On a much larger piece of origami paper, his original pattern folds into the figures represented in the MIT seal, symbolizing MIT’s motto of "mind and hand." Recipients were directed to a video of Brian constructing the origami. To complement the card, I also designed a custom postage stamp featuring MIT’s Great Dome, reinforcing the card’s theme and visual identity. For the new third-issue concept, I disrupted the original two-issue color system by introducing a "wildcard" theme, which allowed for more creative freedom and dynamic design. The catalog showcases the work and statements of MFA candidates in graphic design, painting, and sculpture. Organized alphabetically by last name, it presents the students as a collective while highlighting the diverse spectrum of talent within the program. The spectrum concept is an active element throughout the design, with each page spread featuring a different artist or designer and a unique color from the spectrum—culminating in a striking full-spectrum foredge. I independently developed the design and handled all aspects of print production, ensuring a high-quality final piece.
